The Advela Method

At the core of our learning system is what we call the Advela Method. The Advela Method is our teaching philosophy, validated over time, that capitalizes on the learning potential and capabilities of our students. We have developed our curriculum and teaching based on this model.

We at Advela stand behind the principle that learning is a cycle that builds on each of the elements described here.

What can students learn through the first interaction on their own?

Students are given the opportunity to engage and learn independently through the text and information given.

Instruction

Students practice strategies as readers, learn what to look out for, and practice effective and efficient reading techniques.

They will examine the text more thoroughly by breaking down parts of the text to reformulate and piece together the whole and conceptualize its intent and purpose.

Response

Students put their response to the text into action. Students are given the opportunity to showcase the connections they made and to show how they processed and understand what they learned through written and oral responses, presentations and other sharing they will be asked to do.

Engagement

Students delve into the text and determine what the text is asking, look at new vocabulary or word studies they may encounter, determine the purpose and/or point of view of the text, and determine what type of response is appropriate.

The Advela Way

The Advela Way is our “recipe for success.”  Research shows that students thrive in an environment where they are supported by family members and community who come alongside them in purposeful and engaging work.

At Advela, we know that we do not grow and teach students to reach their potential alone. We highlight the importance of partnership between Advela, the student, and parents so that the student can maximize his/her learning.  We stress the importance of The Advela Way, which involves:

1.png

Partnership among student, teacher, and parents

"It takes a village to raise a child" is not just a phrase but a belief in a community's call to nurture a student's growth.

2.png

Communication

We encourage your input and provide feedback through monthly progress updates and as needed.

3.png

Small, safe, and non-threatening peer environment to learn with and from each other

4.png

Scaffolding and challenging students to meet and exceed their potential

We tap into their strength and grow those areas needing support and encouragement.
